Solutions To Your Most Common Mascara Problems

As much as we rely on its ability to plump, lengthen and volumise our lashes, we sometimes avoid mascara altogether due to unfortunate smudges, clumps and flakes. That is, until now. Read on for the solutions to your most common (and easily fixed!) mascara problems…
The Mascara Problem: Flakes
Mascaras with a higher concentration of waxes and oils, like Benefit BADgirl BANG! Volumising Mascara, attach better to your natural hairs, making them less likely to sprinkle unwanted pigment on your face. For even better results, apply one coat and then wait until your lashes are a little sticky (not wet) before putting on your second coat.
The Mascara Problem: Stiff Lashes
Hard, stiff eyelashes are usually a sign of dryness (read: lashes that are more susceptible to breakage). So, swap your mascara for another formula with natural, conditioning ingredients. We recommend Beautaniq Beauty’s Nourishing Mascara, which combines almond oil, oleic acid and camellia seed oil to give your precious hairs some TLC. The results? Fuller, stronger, less stiff lashes!
The Mascara Problem: Smudges
Avoid annoying mascara stamps on your brow bone and under your eyes with a long-wearing formula like Bobbi Brown’s No Smudge Mascara. This waterproof, volumising mascara contains silicone and minerals to help the formula dry faster and stay put longer. If your smudges occur due to shaky hands, try placing a beautyblender® liner.designer between your lashes and skin as you apply… Thank us later!
The Mascara Problem: Mysteriously Disappears
Save the waterproof mascara for summer holidays and sad movies as these formulas can be tough to remove (aka not the best for everyday use). Instead, make sure your lengthened lashes last all day (and night!) by choosing a formula like Estée Lauder's Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Mascara , which hugs your lashes with long-wearing ingredients like fruit wax and paraffin. Just one coat will deliver length, lift and volume that stays put all day.
The Mascara Problem: Irritation
A hypoallergenic mascara is a no-brainer for someone with sensitive eyes! Inika’s Vegan Long Lash Mascara gets our vote - the gentle, 100% natural formula gives you fluttery, defined lashes without any itchy side effects. We also recommend you avoid bright, tinted mascaras, since the dyes used in them are more likely to irritate your delicate eye area than standard formulas.
The Mascara Problem: Lighter Lashes
If you have light hair and want a more natural lash look, skip the black mascara! Instead, curl your lashes and follow with a tinted primer like Benefit’s They're Real! Tinted Lash Primer. The formula’s mink brown colour blends with your natural lash shade to give subtle - not overwhelming - definition.
The Mascara Problem: Clumps
We all know wiping off excess product before applying more can help, but the real key to clump-free lashes is a moisturising formula and an innovative brush. Game-changing offerings like Eddie Funkhouser’s Quattro Variable Lash Mascara gives you soft, clump-free lashes courtesy of its unique four-in-one wand that changes shape as you twist the dial, delivering volume, length, lift and curl.
