How to keep your skin happy & healthy this summer!

Bust Summer Blemishes!

Everyone knows that in the summer your skin’s main concern is the sun. Exposure to the sun is one of the main reasons for premature skin ageing, so making sure you wear an SPF daily will help to protect your skin against further damage. But other skin concerns can always pop up.

For some of us, warmer weather leads to breakouts. If you have oily skin then you are probably already aware that breakouts can be caused when your pores become clogged. During the warmer weather, you could potentially sweat more and your sebaceous glands may also produce more sebum. If excess oils and bacteria combine on the skin, they could end up clogging your pores which in turn can lead to more breakouts.

How to help:

The best way to try and keep your blemishes under control is by making sure that you cleanse your skin to help remove any dirt or excess oils that are clogging your pores. Using a light-weight, oil free cleansing wash like Adaptology’s Break Free Cleanser works to remove impurities without stimulating oil production, meaning that it deeply cleanses without drying skin out whilst breaking the inflammation cycle that can trigger blemishes.

Whilst so many of us aspire to have that gorgeous summer glow, the shininess that excess oil can bring is definitely not the look we are going for. If that’s the case you might be tempted to skip your moisturiser in fear of adding more moisture to an already oily complexion, but adding a balancing cream to rehydrate skin without overloading it will work in your favour. Choosing a cream like Adaptology’s Break Free Moisturiser that comes with a light texture and blemish busting actives such as Alpine Willowherb will help to balance oil production and manage pores. All of Adaptology’s moisturisers are also packed with their Adaptogen Protection Complex that defends against the effects of pollution, UV radiation and stress so you can be sure your skin stays protected all day long.

Ditch Summer Dryness

If your skin is more on the dry side then summer blemishes might not be such a big concern for you, however dryness could be. Whilst the summer heat might lead to excess oil in your skin for some of us, for others the sun can actually absorb the moisture from your skin leaving it dry and flaky.

Trying to combat the heat can also leave your skin thirsty. Things like air conditioning can strip your skin of moisture leaving it feeling dehydrated and dry, but there are lots of ways to rehydrate your skin and keep moisture locked in for longer.

How to help:

Although lightweight products are normally recommended in the warmer months to avoid weighing down your skin, if your skin is super dehydrated it’s great to restore and rejuvenate with an oil based cleansing balm. Adaptology’s Dry Spell Cleanser is specially designed to gently cleanse dry skin without disrupting the skin barrier, helping to strengthen your skin and keep any essential moisture locked in. This cleansing balm is also great for replenishing lost oils with ingredients such as Sea Buckthorn and Rosehip Oil to add much needed antioxidants and hydrating properties.

Another great ingredient for boosting skin hydration is Hyaluronic Acid. This clear gloopy substance is naturally produced by your body to keep cell tissues moist so you have bags of it already in your skin and eyes. The problem that can lie with this magical ingredient is that just adding it topically means it can just sit on the surface of your skin, creating a breathable surface barrier but not getting deep into the skin for long lasting hydration. If you want a boost of long lasting hydration, Adaptology’s Hydro Pump Booster uses Low Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid to plump the skin and smooth wrinkles from the inside whilst going deeper into the skin with its hydration therapy.
