#AskAsh: What’s The Best Red Lipstick?

Q. Ash, I want to try a red lipstick. Which is the best?
A. Red lipstick has the ability to boost your confidence before a meeting, add a little sophistication for a date, or even give a touch of edge to jeans and a T-shirt. It’s added personality in a bullet! But that’s not to say that finding your favourite stand-out shade is easy. You have thousands at your fingertips claiming to be the best of the best, so it can certainly become overwhelming.
If you’re just entering the world of bold lip colours, trial and error will be your friend. The best ever lipstick truly is down to your own personal opinion. You might find some that are too sticky and glossy, and others are too matte and leave your lips feeling like the Sahara. The very best reds are bright, long-lasting and silky-soft with a semi-matte finish.
Something I always look for when buying a red lipstick is the tone… If you choose something orange based, the lipstick might have a coral or pink tinge. If you choose something blue-based, it’ll look almost strawberry-coloured. Personally, I prefer the latter as blue counteracts orange and yellow hues (hello, secondary school art class), which can make your teeth look whiter in an instant.
type=waveMy top picks:
Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Creme Lipstick in Carnal
This Hollywood glamour red not only makes your teeth look brighter and whiter, but the moisturising, creamy consistency feels comfortable on your lips all day.
Lipstick Queen Hello Sailor Lipstick
For those not ready for a show stopping red, this blue lipstick uses colour-changing technology to transform into a sheer, deep berry shade suited to your skin tone.
Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick in Fireball
Both soft and lightweight, this punchy red lipstick glides on smoothly thanks to its vitamin-fortified formula and dries down to a vibrant matte.
